Julia Hung (b. 1986, Taipei) creates poetic installations and abstract sculptures that explore the interplay of material, form, and perception. Drawing on a multicultural upbringing, a sensitivity to impermanence, and Taoist philosophy, her work dissolves conventional boundaries. Through weaving and other material-transforming techniques historically linked to domestic labor, she investigates social value and gendered expectations. By reframing overlooked materials — discarded plastics, ordinary objects, and daily gestures—her practice turns acts of making into reflections on value and the subtle exchanges between the physical and the ephemeral.

Hung holds a BDes from OCAD University (2012) and an MFA from HEAD – Genève (2016). Her work has received numerous honors, including the Asian Cultural Council’s New York Fellowship (2024), and finalist recognition in the New Heads – Fondation BNP Paribas Art Award (2017) and the Taoyuan Fine Arts Exhibition (2023). Her artworks are featured in both public and private collections, including the King Car Cultural & Educational Foundation, t.Hub Taipei, and Hotel Indigo Alishan.
