Immortagram series

The series Immortagram looks into the pendulum of disposability in daily goods and art, and rethinks the possibility of continuity as an issue each human being must face.

Inspired by the current social media craze, artist Julia Hung turns used plastic bags into a visual hybrid of edible raw food and human organ. It examines human’s fascination towards branding and following superficial images in consumer culture. Edible raw food and human organ emphasize that through such fascination, while mankind consumes, mankind is also being consumed.

Furthermore, the branded images and stories somehow gain their existence beyond stories, blurring the boundary between real and fake, so we can only call them ‘artificial’. Thus, Hung defines our time as the era of artificial reality, and questions the pendulum of value and reality in daily goods, art and ideology.
